PCGS 1858 Flying Eagle Small Cent Large Letters
1858 copper-nickel Flying Eagle small cent with Large Letters unable to be graded, but is authenticated by Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS). Unfortunately, someone in this coin’s past attempted to clean it with a form of solvent, and rendered it ungradeable. The coin still has breathtaking detail putting it in the Uncirculated range.
The Flying Eagle cent was designed by James B. Longacre. The design was very popular, but didn’t strike very well during the minting process. This lead the coin to only be run for three years (1856-1858) before being replaced with the Indian Head Cent. All coins were minted at the Philadelphia Mint. Coin weight: 4.67g Composition: .880 copper, .120 nickel
