NGC 1887 Morgan Silver Dollar MS-64 STAR
This 1887 Morgan Silver Dollar was graded at MS-64 *(mint state 64 out of a possible 70, the star is a designation for superior eye appeal)and encapsulated in hard acrylic by NGC (Numismatic Guaranty Corporation). The coin has very heavy, but beautiful rainbow colored toning on both the obverse and reverse, as is indicated by the star for superior appeal. The coin can be seen in greater detail in the enlarged pictures provided.
The Morgan silver dollar was designed by George T. Morgan. The Morgan dollar ran from 1878-1904 and 1921. Morgan’s initial “M” can be found on the obverse at the truncation of the neck. Morgan dollars that were struck sharply hand have a prooflike reflective surface are very rare and usually command a very high premium. The coins have reeded edges, and were struck at the Philadelphia, Denver, New Orleans (defunct), Carson City (defunct), and San Francisco Mint.
