14k Hamilton Barton Watch
Vintage Hamilton Barton 14k watch. original 2- toned dial with sub seconds and solid gold applied numerals and dagger hands. This model started production in 1948 and this watch was probably manufactured that year as it was presented to the original owner in 1949. The movement is the 19-Jewel 982M Movement, which is one of Hamilton's best. The watch is large and beefy for a rectangular shaped watch. Among the longest of Hamilton’s rectangular shaped watches. The Case is properly marked 14K Solid Gold and its measures 41mm by 23mm. The watch looks and feels heavy. The 2-toned dial is in very good shape with a few minute spots. It has different reflective properties between the outer race and the inner butler. The chapter around the sub-second hand is also two-toned, replicating its larger brother. The two-tone properties give the dial a depth that is distinctly different. Hamilton explored this technique on a number of their models. The crystal is angular (vertical sides and flat toped) and raised, and thick. The 982M is arguably among the best that Hamilton produced. The 982 was terrific even before Hamilton upgraded it to what they called the 982M (Medallion). A more highly finished movement, indeed. The nickel plates are damaskeened, and the movement has the famous Elinvar balance. The case back is engraved see photo. The watch is keeping accurate time. Classic look from the 1940s!
